The Christmas Tree Hunt...

Well now I know what hunting for the perfect tree is like with two 21 monthers! Now while I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, we really had a great time. The twins were giddy running around everywhere. Piper loved her Santa hat and did NOT want to take it off! Maxwell was wearing his new jacket, which we didn't realize is so warm that he was all sweaty when we got home from running around even though it's COLD outside. What a big boy!

Halloween and Other Fun Stuff...

Halloween this year wasn't too eventful. The twins didn't go trick or treating. I think they are still a little young to understand what that's all about. I can see it now, they'd be wanting to walk inside of all of the houses. They'd probably cry at half of the decorations at the different houses. Maybe next year. We did go down to see my dad at work with the twins in their costumes. Maxwell was a construction worker. Piper was a cheerleader. I had her hair in pigtails, but lately she's been pulling them out any chance she can get. Doesn't she understand beauty is pain?

Movie night in Mommy's and Daddy's bed. They LOVED this. It was their first time watching something tucked in our bed. I believe the movie was Cloudy, With a Chance of Meatballs. It's one of their favorites at the moment...

A Little of Everything...

One thing that we do EVERY SINGLE DAY is go to see Grampy and Daddy at work. We almost always go to Starbucks before and get our morning coffee cake, which the babies call "baba." Actually, any kind of food or drink is called a "baba." Silly toddlers. Once there, Maxwell runs to where a few engines are out on display, he loves to steal the oil filler cap and run around with it. Piper loves to run around touching everything in sight. Here are some pictures of Maxwell and Piper while visiting Daddy and Grampy's Parts Store.

Piper and Maxwell have been playing outside in the dirt and grass a lot lately. It's been a daily ritual since the weather has been so nice here. I took a couple of pictures. Piper looks so cute in her pigtails, and Maxwell is adorable hiding in one of his favorite big bushes.

This is a picture of Piper after she's worked her way almost out of her diaper. If it weren't for her underwear, or "pickle panties," she would be completely naked. You see, we've started having to put underwear over her diaper because she loves to take off her diaper. And we all know how dangerous that can be.

Today after Ian got off of work we went to the Pumpkin Patch with Maxwell and Piper. They had such a good time. They loved being pulled in the Radio Flyers. They like to point at the pumkins and say "wheeeee" as they rolled around looking at all of the pumpkins. We ended up picking out some really cool looking ones. I can't wait to set them up outside of the front door. Here are a couple of the pictures we took tonight. Notice how excited Maxwell is in one of the pictures. He's so funny.

I'm so proud of the fact that I can FINALLY do SOMETHING with Piper's hair. The poor thing has extremely fine hair with lots of calics. It's the cutest thing though. I love it.

In other news, we went shopping at the Baby Gap for some new p.j.'s tonight. My all time favorite outfit for a toddler is a great pair of pajamas. Love the diaper butt!!!

Disneyland Trip

We went to Disneyland last week with my parents, my sister-in-law, Jennie, and my sister's family. As you can imagine, with two 18 monthers, it was a little hectic. We still managed to have a good time. I can't wait to go back. Maybe next year.

We spent a lot of our time walking around, people watching. It's hard to go on a lot of rides with two 18 month olds. Although they did love It's a Small World, the carousel, and the Storybook Land.

The meeting of Mickey did not go over as planned. Piper wanted as far away as possible, and Maxwell wanted to touch his face the whole time. No screaming though, so we were off to a decent start.

The babies have been very busy lately! Maxwell has found his love for cars and trucks. He loves driving them around our house. Piper isn't interested at all in them, she loves to drag her clothes, especially the pink ones, through the house. Almost as if they are a blankie. She will sit with them and just play with the straps, rub her fingers though them. It's hilarious. That's a new thing she does.

They are now 17 months old. I can't believe that they are almost a year and a half! Little Piper is just now starting to talk. My big girl can now say hi and mama. She loves to say hi to each and every person that comes into the room. I love her little voice. Maxwell is saying hi, mama, no, ball, and bye. I'm trying to teach them a new word every day, but so far it's more like a new word every week or two. They actually chat with each other a lot, though I have no idea what they are saying. It's the funniest thing. I will have to get a video of it. They have their own language, I guess. They are starting to play together more and more, which is SO NICE FOR ME. Gives me a much needed break!

They had their well baby checks last week. Maxwell is still our big boy. He is in the 90th percentile or height, and the 95th percentile for weight. Until now, he's always been in the 100 percentile for weight, which doesn't surprise me, Piper's been eating more than him for the past few months. Piper was in the 13th and 14th percentile for both height and weight. She's still our little "peaunt."

We are looking forward to our big trip to Disneyland with the babies. I know....we must be crazy taking two 1 yr olds to Disneyland!! We are taking Aunt Jennie to help out. Should be interesting!

Wow, It's Been Awhile...

I realized a lot of time has gone by since we last updated you all. The twins are getting bigger. They are 15 1/2 months old now! I can't believe how fast time has been flying. It has been so exciting seeing them grow and learn new things each month.

Maxwell has developed quite the personality. He LOVES to chat with anyone who will listen. He has his own language, with his favorite word being "dubai-ey." We still are not sure what it means. He has eight teeth now and loves to show them in a big toothy grin. He runs all around and has started climbing the stairs to the top, which makes Mommy very nervous. He also loves to take his diaper off, so we have now started putting underwear on over his diaper to eliminate any disasters. Other than all of that, he is usually a really happy-go lucky guy. We love having him. He brings so much joy to us.

This has been a big month for Piper. We are so happy for her, she is just starting to walk. She gets so proud of herself and starts squealing with delight as she walks toward us. She still only has two teeth. She is NO hurry whatsoever to get the rest! If you make eye contact with her, she will not hesitate to insist on you picking her up. She loves to be held. One of her favorite things to do at night with Daddy is to build a fort and hide under the pillows on the couch. She is so happy in her little protected world. Maybe that's because brother is always in the way. Her eyes are a crystal blue and she is still a pretty small gal. I can't wait to see how tall she is and what she weighs at her next well baby check next month.

Maxwell has been very talkative when he wakes up from his naps. He is not afraid to answer the toughest of questions. He also wanted to apologize for the wardrobe malfunction as he had no idea his belly was hanging out the whole time.

The twins were lucky enough to have two parties this year. We had one party in Santa Rosa, CA, and one party in Mesquite, NV. Maxwell and Piper ended up with so many clothes, their wardrobes are officially set for Spring, which makes me happy. No spending money on clothes for awhile!!! Ian will love that! They also got lots of toys. THANKS EVERYONE! Unfortunatley we don't have any pictures of Maxwell or Piper eating their cake. They both cried the moment they saw the cake coming at them. They wouldn't even try the cake no matter what we tried, so we ended up taking them out of their highchairs and holding them. What little stinkers. Here are a few pictures....

So far February has been a big month! First, the twins turned one!! Pictures of that are soon to come.....Maxwell got his first haircut. He was VERY well behaved and really didn't even cry. We are so proud of him. Ian and I were able to celebrate Valentine's Day. He got me some roses and we went out shopping. Piper has started pulling herself up onto couches, etc. She even takes a few steps now while holding onto things. Maxwell has started walking! We will post a video here soon. Maxwell has four, almost five teeth! Piper still has two. She likes to take her time. ;) Piper's hair is still fuzzy like a baby chick. We are still calling her our little bird. They both are sleeping through the night. Going to bed at 8pm, waking between 7-8am. That has been so nice for me. Getting a full nights rest is a must! That about wraps up the month. Pictures of their first party will be posted later in the week.

What a wonderful, long, year we've had. I'm glad I have the sleepless nights behind me, for the most part, at least. The babies are now almost 11 months, which means they will be one year before we know it. Thanks to everyone who spent Christmas with us. It was so much fun! We had family pictures taken at the Geyserville Inn on October 18th. The pictures turned out better than I expected. Both Piper and Maxwell were being big crab apples that day, but you really can't tell from looking. One of my favorites is the black and white picture of Piper with her hair glowing from the sun. So cute!!

9 Month Well Baby Check!

The twins are already 9 months! I can't believe how big they are getting. It's definitely getting easier. Maxwell is crawling and pulling himself up. He has TWO teeth now! We noticed the other one yesterday. Piper is sitting up and rolling around everywhere. I think she is getting closer to crawling. No teeth in sight for her yet either. She likes to take her time with these things. Her hair is still all fuzzy, just like a baby chick. Maxwell came in at 25 lbs, while Piper is only 17.5 lbs. Maxwell is 29.25 inches, and Piper is 26.25 inches. Maxwell's percentile has gotten lower. He went from being in the 100 percentile for weight, to the 96 percentile. His height is in the 80th percentile. Piper's height is in the 10th percentile, and her weight is in the 20th percentile.

We had a great weekend seeing the Blue Angels in SF. The weather was georgous and warm enough to not need a sweater. The babies were great and even napped in mine and my mom's arms. My dad and Ian know the cook at the San Francisco Yacht Club, so we were able to get in. Fun day!!

We took the babies out again tonight to the Kenwood Restaurant and had such a great time. We love going there because the food is excellent and we can sit outdoors and overlook the wineries. It's beautiful. As you can see, we had plenty of help with the babies which makes for a great meal out! By the way, our server is named Sherry, she's great at what she does and is very sweet. Speaking of sweet, the babies had their first taste of ice cream tonight. Of course they loved it!!!

6 Month Well Baby Check!

The twins had their 6 month well baby check this week! We were reminded how large Maxwell really is again. He came in at the 100 percentile again for weight and the 75th percentil for height. He's still our Jolly Giant! His personality is coming in more and more each week. As for little Piper, she came in at the 31st percentile for her weight and the only the 23rd for her height. I guess she has me to thank for that. ;) She's definitely Daddy's girl! In general they are doing well. We are getting ready to leave to go up north to Humboldt County to visit Ian's family for the first time. Soon after that we will be going to my parent's house in Nevada. Should be fun!

This was Ian's first Father's Day and I have to say we had such a GREAT day!!! Ian's dad came down and stayed with us over the weekend. We all met up with my parents on Sunday morning and had breakfast at the Sonoma Mission Inn to celebrate Father's Day with the three fathers. Later, we went over to my parents for a BBQ with both of my grandmothers. Ians loving being a daddy and I'm so happy we can finally celebrate this day.

4 Month Well Baby Check

The babies are 4 months now! It's pretty crazy how fast these little things grow! Speaking of growing, Maxwell is now 18 lbs 10 oz and is still up there in the 97th percentile! Little Piper is just under 13 lbs weighing in at 12 lbs 15 oz. She is getting bigger too coming in at the 36th percentile. Good girl, she was only in the 5th percentile before. It was a great visit. The Pediatrician said they are hitting all of thier milestones and are doing great. Of course they did have their shots at the end of the visit which led to litte meltdowns. Poor little peanuts.

Maxwell and Piper have been doing well lately. They have been sleeping through the night more and more though I can't wait until they are doing it EVERY night!! Right now it's averaging about half the week. I'll take what I can get. Our night nurses last night was Thursday night and I've been kind of sad all day. She was SO good with our babies and was the sweetest lady. I will miss her....

We went to Corte Madera yesterday and shopped for Ian's birthday. Jennie came with us. We celebrated her birthday as well. Their birthdays are one day apart. Shopping with two infants isn't as bad as it sounds. It actually went well. We were able to go to the Cheesecake Factory and shop for about 4-5 hours. We had a great time. These pictures were taken with my phone, so they aren't the best quality, but you get the idea.

The babies had a big weekend with Ian's dad, Grandpa Chuck. We went to dinner in Healdsburg while it was about 93 degrees outside, you can tell by how rosy Piper's cheeks were. Little Maxwell slept throughout the meal, but Miss Piper was awake and active the whole time. The restaurant had the misters spraying us and Piper loved it! Aunt Jennie kept walking through them with her. She loves her Aunt Jennie!!

Livin the normal life. Normally up to this point with the twins we have been grabbing something we can eat within 10 minutes because the twins get so fussy. However, the other night, we were able to go to a nice resaurant in Kenwood. We were able to squeeze in appetizers and dessert! We forgot how fun that is! The babies are to the point now where they don't cry constantly and I think we will be doing more of that in the near future. The servers even got in on the action and held Piper for awhile.

Tonight we took the twins to Babies R Us and picked up a few things to entertain them. We got two Bumbo seats, a jumperoo, a mobile, and a few other things. I must admit it's really nice having them old enough to be able to entertain themselves with the help of a few toys! Both Maxwell and Piper loved to sit up on their own like big boys and girls in their Bumbo chairs! Their poor little heads are still a little bobble head like, but they sure were cute sitting there. Yay for Babies R Us!!!!

The Twins are Now 3 Months Old!

That's right, the babies are getting older. I'm so happy that we have made it this far already. They are making some major progress lately. Piper slept ALL night for the past two nights! I can't believe it, I'm hoping she will continue that. Maxwell is only getting up once at night now for the most part. He's a big eater, so I think it may be a few more weeks or even longer before he is sleeping through the night. Our little Miss Priss Piper has reflux issues and is now on Prevacid. I really think it is making a difference because it is now a lot easier to feed her. A few other things that have been nice as of the last few weeks is that they are now a little happier, napping a little better, eating better, and just easier to handle in general. Thank God! Handy Dandy Standy and Tummy Time

Piper's newest favorite past time is something we like to call "handy dandy standy time." Just recently did both of our little bundles start to enjoy themselves throughout some part of the day. That has been a nice change over the last week or so. Piper lights up when she is standing, she is such a big girl now!

Maxwell, on the other hand, is a little too beefy for standing. We have tried, but he's more of a couch potato. He likes his tummy time and because of this, is developing quite a strong neck! He's our beefcake for sure.

Two Month Well Baby Check

Maxwell and Piper had their two month well baby check last week. Though they were actually nine weeks the day of the appointment. Maxwell is a whopping 13 lbs 10 oz and is in the 97th percentile for weight and the 75th for height!! We call him "Meatball" at times. He's so funny. Piper is still our teeny girl. She was only 10 lbs 8 oz and is in the 25th percentile for weight, and only the 7th percentile for height! She's our little Miss Priss.

The babies are definitely getting bigger. Maxwell has quite the belly as you can see in the pictures below. They are 8 weeks now which seems so crazy to me. Even with the lack of sleep, time is really flying by so fast! The babies both have started smiling in the last couple of weeks which makes me so happy! Piggy Update

I've had people ask me how Piggy is doing with all the excitement around here with the new babies so I thought I'd do a little post about it. She is doing great with them. She really ignores them for the most part except for the occasional sniff of the diaper or the face. She still gets attention from Ian and I. She still sleeps with us every night and is our baby, after all, she's been our baby now for almost 6 years. She loves getting in one of the bouncers and tries to get comfortable. Silly Piggy.....

Aunties Came to Town...

My sister, Kristy, came to visit this weekend from Nevada. Ian's sister, Jennie, also came for a few nights. We had so much fun. It was so nice to see my sister again and to get some much needed help with the babies. Both Kristy and Jennie were great help! Thanks girls. My sister took the whole night shift one night for me and she split the other night with Jennie. It was fabulous to get a couple of nights in a row to rest. I wish my sister lived a little closer. I can't wait until she comes back. We took some cute pictures from the weekend as well and put them in a little slide show.

My cousin John, his wife Bria, and their two kids Josh and Hannah, came by to visit the twins. We had a good time. It's always fun introducing the twins to their family. Hannah and Josh are really cute with them. It's fun to see. Bria and the kids were a big help last week. They came over to watch the babies for me so that I could get out of the house to get some fresh air and a little time to myself. It was so nice. I went to Starbucks, got my car washed, and did a little shopping! It was great! Can't wait to do it again already. Thanks Bria, Hannah, and Josh!!!!

I took the babies to the parts store to visit their Daddy and Grandpa Mark. As you can see, they were great helpers! They think their Grandpa is soooo much fun!!

We had a photographer come to our house today for a photo shoot of the babies. I thought for sure they would be crying the whole time, but they were wonderful. If you think you hear a hair dryer on the video you are right. We had one blowing on them the throughout the whole photo session. They loved it! I think I may try it on them next time they are fussy. Ian took a couple of videos during the shoot so you can get a little sneak peak of a few of the pictures. I can't wait to see them. We should be getting them back in the next couple of weeks!

Twins first real bath!

Last week the twins finally lost their embilical cords so they were lucky enough last night to get their first real bath! We were worried little Maxwell was going to scream through the whole thing, but he ended up loving it and so did Piper.

We were lucky to slip out of the house tonight for the first time together. Thank God for grandparents. Our big night out included a walk around the mall, dinner together at Outback, and topped off with a trip to Target. We sure were living in up! It actually felt great to get out and relax for a few hours!

We have our pack and play set up in our family room. Mainly so Piggy doesn't go bothering them when they are sleeping. I looked over at them just now and thought they looked so darn cute I had to document it with some pictures! Note the look on Piper's face in some of the pictures. It's hilarious!! They had an apppointment on Monday and we found out that Piper is now 6 lbs 12 1/2 oz and Maxwell is now 7 lbs 6 oz. We love our babies and are so proud of them!

We have decided to look into getting some help to come on certain nights of the week so that we can get SOME sleep again. I am averaging only an hour or two a night, and let me tell you, after a few weeks of that you start to see spots and can hardly function at all. My mom has been coming in the mornings so I can get an hour or two of sleep in the morning! Thank God for moms! So here we are, tomorrow I am calling an agency that sends out nannies to help. I am hoping to find someone that can come between the hours of 11pm and 6am. That would truly be a lifesaver! We will see what comes of this. I will keep you all posted!

Taken care of twins sure is tough work, but even Piggie has stepped up to the plate and is helping out. What would we do without her! Actually piggie has been great around the babies. We always worried about how she would react when the babies arrived, but she seems to not mind at all.

Tonight we gave the twins their first bath at home. Maxwell pretty much screamed the whole entire time and little Piper was happy as a clam! Right now they are sound asleep.

Our First Night Home Together

Just a couple of shots we took lastnight while relaxing. The babies were a little better. I think I managed to get a few hours of sleep in here and there in between feedings and crying babies. Ian is off the rest of the week from work, which is so nice so I can fit a nap in from time to time. We brought Piggy home today from the kennel and so far she hasn't been very interested in the babies. I will keep you posted on how that goes. Fingers crossed!

We had another long night. Piper spent most of the night fussing and now is dead asleep. On a good note, the twins saw the pediatrician again today and both are doing great with their health. We are so anxious to get home and settled in.

Here are a few pics from some rare moments of the day. Today was kind of a hard one for them as they cried a lot. Good thing they are so cute though, it makes the nights a little easier! Lastnight was another hard one. My mom helped out this time and she ended up only getting one hour of sleep. Poor MOM!!! I sure do appreciate the help though!!!! She's been a life saver. Well, we just need to see how we can get them to sleep tonight. Wish us luck!!

Our First Valentines Day Together......

Happy Valentines Day everyone! I actually forgot it was Valentines Day today because I am so sleep deprived. I don't think I can put into words exactly how exhausted I am. I'm sure you all can imagine though. Three nights ago I got ONE hour of sleep. Two nights ago I got about TWO hours of sleep, and last night I probably got about FOUR hours of sleep. Not tring to complain though, just letting you in on what it's like here! We are still so excited and happy we have two healthy twins! It's pretty amazing! Well, here are a few pictures from our day. I can't wait to get home, this has been a very long week! OH.....and yes, I did put Maxwell in a pink blankie, that was what was closest.

Mean Jean is My Hero!

My sister, Jennie aka "Mean Jean", has been a life saver. The babies spent thier first night at our hotel being beyond fussy. My sister stayed up all night helping us with both crying babies and were talking all night. Now instead of getting rest she has spent the entire day trying to arrange and change flights in order to get us all home on Tuesday. I highly recommend a Mean Jean to anyone who plans on having twins. We couldn't imagine the last few days without her!

We were discharged from the Hospital today. We are settled back into our hotel and plan on flying home home with the babies next Tuesday after one last checkup with a pediatrician on Monday.

Special Delivery

Both babies were delivered and are of great health. In the picture Maxwell is unwrapped and Piper is wrapped in a blanket. Maxwell was 7 lbs. 4 oz. and Piper was 6 lbs. 9 oz. We are having trouble getting a good internet connection so we will post a ton more pictures later!

Tonight was our last dinner before the twins are born. We all got together with Kathy's family and had a great time! We went to a steakhouse called Hops. Kathy really wasn't nervous at all, which surprised me. I, on the other hand, am so anxious I probably won't be getting much sleep. Pray that all goes well tomorrow and that we aren't too anxious!

P.S.-The little girl in the pictures is Kathy's 4 yr old daughter Nadya. She is quite the little talker! She can't wait to meet the babies!!

Today was Kathy's last appointment. Of course Ian and I went, and my mom and sister-in-law Jennie decided to tag along as well. It was an exciting morning, we found out both Maxwell and Piper are weighing approximately 6 lbs 11 oz. So we are thinking they will be at least 6 lbs when they are actually weighed tomorrow. Kathy is definitely going to be having a C-section because Piper is still transverse with Maxwell right on top of her. The C-section is scheduled for 12 noon here on the East Coast, 9am there on the West Coast. Ian and I are so excited and anxious! It will be nice to get this over with and have our babies with us! We can't wait to see them. We will do our best tomorrow to update with pictures as soon as we can!!!!

Ian asked me this morning if we needed a truck drivers license to operate this contraption. But seriously, isn't it funny looking? We could have gotten a much "cooler" looking stroller, but this one is so convenient as we will not need to pull the babies out of there carriers to get them in their stroller. Later on when they get to be a few months old, we will get a different one, but for now, this is it!!

One Day Down, Three to Go!

Today was our first full day in Charlotte. We have three more long days to go. We toured the maternity ward today and were filled in on how this hospital handles surrogacy cases. We were told that we will be given a room for as long as the babies are patients of the hospital, which is exciting for us because we won't have to be without our babies overnight!

We were with our GC throughout most of the evening and she was having many contractions all during our dinner. We would not be surprised if she didn't make it to the scheduled C-section on Tuesday. She is still thinking that she will make it, but isn't as sure as she was before. We will keep everyone posted.......

We're Off to Charlotte!

We are scheduled to fly out tommorrow from San Francisco to Charlotte. We have been running around like mad people scrambling to get everything ready to go.

Our bags are fully packed and we are now officially ready to leave. We are sad because we dropped our Piggy off this afternoon at the kennel. She will be there until we get back. We will pick her up again after we have been back here with the babies for a few days. Poor piggy, she doesn't know that her home will never be the same.

I am sad to say one item that I will greatly miss would not fit in our luggage. Hey we all make sacrifices!!!

That's a Whole Lotta Baby

Our twins were measured this morning at their 36 week checkup and estimated to be...... Piper - 6 lbs 5 oz and Maxwell - 6 lb 3 oz. At this rate these babies will be big enough to carry us around! We are so happy to see them growing and are thankful to God that they are so healthy.

Our Bags Are Packed....

Our gestational carrier is now 36 weeks. We are worried our babies may come early and causing us to fly out to NC with little notice, therefor we have pulled out our suitcases to start packing just in case. This is what happens when we don't fill up our bags fast enough. Someone else takes the initiative to pack for us. The piggie sure has a mind of her own!!

Haha....just kidding. The neat thing about going through this process is that our first baby pictures of our twins was as embryos. We are speculating that Maxwell is the bigger embryo and Piper, the smaller one. We think this because the embryologist told us that boys typically as embryos develop a day or two faster than the girl embryos. Not always, but this can be true. We were also told not to expect the smaller one, possibly Piper, to implant because she was falling a day behind. We were happily surprised when we found out both embryos implanted. These are embyros gowing in a dish after five days.

Surrogacy Explained by Piggie

A lot of people hear we have twins due any day now, but you couldn't tell by looking at my wife. This is because we are using a gestational carrier, otherwise known as a surrogate. When people find out we are doing surrogacy the questions come flooding in so I wanted to pass along how Piggie explains it.

These babies are made from Carisa's cookie dough and Ian's chocolate chips.

We just needed to borrow someone else's oven to cooks them in.

Our baby boy is Maxwell Michael. Ian's middle name is Michael. Our baby girl is Piper Rae! It took us forever to come up with two names that we can both agree on, so I think these names are sticking around.......

Pigs have round bodies and short legs..... so does our dog. Pigs have short curly tails..... so does our dog. Pigs have short noses and snort all day long..... well..... you get the point. Lucy, our bulldog is almost 6 years old. She's spent the majority of her life sleeping and eating. Therefore, she has rightfully earned the name, Piggie!
